  1. A creative take on a traditional industry – Bergos Next

    January 30, 2023 by noformat

Last year, we received a special mention in the German Design Awards 2022 for our design work with the internationally-operating Swiss private bank, Bergos

And with a new year comes an exciting new challenge for our Bergos noformat partnership. The beginning of 2022 has seen us build the brand and create a cutting-edge website for Bergos Next, a diverse and growing community for Bergos’ next generation of successful entrepreneurs and innovators.

Based in Zurich with offices in Geneva, Bergos has a history that traces back to 1590. The vast, international team is dedicated to asset management and advisory with a focus on private clients, family entrepreneurs, next generation, and shipping clients.

While remaining relevant to the Bergos brand and staying true to the company’s fascinating heritage, we created a modern and highly distinct look and feel—one that appealed directly to Bergos’ younger community. The website marks the beginning of a new and exciting journey for Bergos Next, with content previously sitting on Bergos’ main website rather than existing as an independent entity.

In a move worlds apart from often traditional financial organizations, our in-house team moved away from static content and instead explored, tested, built, and implemented animations throughout the site. The project involved creative development, information architecture, as well as creating the full brand direction and style guide.

With pages dedicated to podcasts, events, topics, and artists, the site intentionally feels like a vibrant newsroom to keep the community up-to-date about relevant industry-wide information. It gives users a reason to return.

The bespoke animations were created as a tool to aid communication, rather than distract from the user experience. From an interactive cursor to animated ‘apply now’ call-outs and full-width videos and animations to aid storytelling, the site was technically challenging but the result is a refreshing site that breaks the mold of financial institutions.

  5. Building a unified site for a leading renewable energy organization

    October 9, 2022 by noformat

One of the world’s leading renewable energy generation, transmission, and energy storage companies, Pattern Energy, came to us wanting to overhaul their current content and create one unified, distinct brand.

Headquartered in the US with operating and development footprints in the US, Canada, Mexico, and Japan, the revamp needed to meet the distinct needs of different markets as well as a diverse range of customers who provide low-cost energy to millions of consumers. Their global portfolio includes more than 30 utility-scale renewable power facilities and transmission assets.

With markets familiar with creating and sharing content in different ways, the challenge was to create an easy-to-use infrastructure that would clearly represent one brand but also serve the wide-ranging needs of offices and communities. We centralized Pattern Energy’s multiple microsites and content into one global hub. To do so in a way that would suit the many stakeholders, we designed and built engaging project pages to cover the differing requirements, including layouts to detail local partnerships, promotions, and PR opportunities. We migrated to one CMS admin for simple access and control.

The templatized approach meant local staff had the flexibility to create their own content while ensuring the pages accurately reflected Pattern Energy. The end result was creating one global site with a portfolio of products, each following the same look and feel as the global site.

We supported the team by developing UX, UI, and information infrastructure to understand how best to present the wide-ranging information and the best approach for their users and staff.

Pattern Energy also wanted to stand out in a crowded market. We developed and extended the brand guidelines and created a direction for animation for use across digital.

Many companies in a similar field tend to focus on machinery, whereas Pattern Energy wanted to make the people behind their vital projects the focus. We built a human-centric website that heroes the communities making a difference.

There were also technical considerations, with some markets not having access to the latest devices or technical infrastructure. Because of this, we created a simple, modern site with features including eye-catching transitions that would be likely to work well in areas with lower bandwidth too.

  7. The red thread that brought a school to life!

    February 6, 2022 by noformat

The Mastery School of Hawken is on a mission to be a new kind of high school—one built around mastery not grades. The education model favors creative, transferable, deep learning—an environment where students can build their own path around their unique passions and interests.

To reflect their individuality, we built a bold brand that instantly set them apart from other educators and represented their mission and beliefs. By using the vibrant colors from the Hawken School brand book and adding hand drawn elements, we were able to create consistency with the parent brand while ensuring the school has its own unique stamp.

Part of the collaboration with the Mastery School was building a new website that would act as an information hub for parents and students alike. And so, it needed to effortlessly balance fun and creativity with trust.

We took the concept of a red thread (a common theme), and created interactive animations using augmented reality to allow the user to build images as they scroll. It reflects the school’s narrative—that each student weaves their own thread when choosing their own journey.

The motif is also an extension of the logo, an ‘m’ handwritten by the educator and visionary, James Hawken, back in the 1920s. It seemed a fitting tribute as the Mastery School is inspired by a school Hawken established—one that rejected the assembly line of teaching in favor of a more personal approach.

The Mastery School opened for its first intake in 2020-21, with our branding helping to tell the school’s story and catch parents and students’ attention in the lead-up to the sign-up process.

  8. Preserving Timeless Wisdom

    November 20, 2021 by noformat

For 30+ years, the Asian Legacy Library has painstakingly preserved some of the rarest cultural wisdom literature of the world. By partnering with preservationists, the global non-profit locates, scans, and catalogs the priceless texts to create a rich database that is accessible to everyone—no matter where they are.

We’ve been honored to play an active role in preserving these precious texts as partners of the Asian Legacy Library. With the help of technology, we are keeping original teachings and commentaries from past centuries alive and making sure they’re never lost or forgotten.

It’s a privilege for us to learn about the unique heritage of the East and the ancient wisdom traditions that continue to influence culture today. The important works are categorized within the Himalayan and Inner Asian Collection, the South Asian Collection, and the East Asian Collection.

As the world is changing at pace, the Asian Legacy Library is driven to collate the world’s rich contemplative wisdom traditions to ensure mankind has access to these teachings, collective moral values, and wisdom.

The Asian Legacy Library continues to evolve, recently partnering with the National Library of Mongolia, the Buddhist Digital Resource Center, and the Khyentse Foundation to scan and catalog over 42,000 volumes of precious Asian cultural wisdom in the library’s archives.
